The Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Regional Project Coordination Office 8 (RPCO8), through its Investments for Local and National Level Planning (I-PLAN) Component, successfully conducted the IPLAN Eastern Visayas Coordination Meeting and Capacity Enhancement Workshop on Climate and Spatial Planning Tools held on September 22-26 at Tacloban City.

The five-day activity gathered key technical staff from the RPCO 8, PSO IPLAN Visayas, and Provincial Project Management and Implementing Units (PPMIUs) across the region to enhance competencies in spatial and climate data analysis while reinforcing alignment on PRDP Scale-Up implementation strategies.

The activity started with the primary sessions underscoring the importance of leveraging funds for the Provincial Commodity Investment Plans (PCIPs) and maintaining synchronization across implementing units.

The following day focused on reviewing the status of deliverables, sharing RAFiP presentation updates, and conducting workshops for PMIU experience sharing and critiquing outputs—led by IPLAN planning officers, and other technical specialists.

Transitioning into the Capacity Enhancement Workshop onwards, participants engaged in intensive sessions on statistical concepts, data visualization, and climate data analysis. These sessions aimed to strengthen the participants’ capacity to apply data-driven approaches in planning and decision-making, particularly in addressing climate resilience and sustainable land-use development. Hands-on exercises and workshops allowed participants to apply climate data in actual planning scenarios eventually, culminating in the presentation of outputs.

This initiative highlighted the significance of bridging technical proficiency with practical planning tools to support local governments in developing resilient and market-responsive agricultural systems under PRDP Scale-Up.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and documentation, reaffirming PRDP’s continuing commitment to capacitating its regional and provincial teams in evidence-based planning for inclusive and sustainable agri-fisheries development in Eastern Visayas.
