In celebration of National Bamboo Day, a Simultaneous Bamboo Planting Activity was held on September 18, 2025, at the San Miguel Experiment Station in San Miguel, Leyte. The activity aims to promote bamboo as a key component of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.

The event was spearheaded by the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Regional Coordinator, Ms. Ferlynn V. Basanez, with active participation from Regional Technical Director for Research & Regulations, Dir. Jenny Lyn R. Almeria, Station Superintendent Mr. Gary De Asis, division chiefs, and staff of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 8.

This year, the participants planted Kawayan Tinik (Bambusa blumeana), a locally known and widely cultivated bamboo species known for its durability and versatility. The planting of this variety contributes to the region’s agroforestry efforts, soil erosion prevention, and the promotion of bamboo as a high-value crop.

As part of the activity, the group also visited the bamboo planting site established during last year’s celebration. The visit revealed thriving bamboo stands, serving as a testament to the success of previous efforts and reinforcing the long-term value of such initiatives in building environmental resilience.

This annual activity reflects the Department of Agriculture’s commitment to supporting the National Greening Program, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and fostering livelihood opportunities through bamboo-based enterprises. The event concluded with a shared commitment among the participants to sustain and expand bamboo development efforts in the region.
