In line with the nationwide observance of Rice Awareness Month this November, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 8 staged “DAlagan: Run for Rice 2025” in Tacloban City, on November 29, 2025.
The advocacy-driven fun run underscored the importance of valuing rice as a staple commodity and the promotion of responsible food consumption among the public.
RTD for Operations, Dir. Jenny Lyn Almeria, formally opened the event, highlighting the paramount importance of the celebration on the attainment of food security.
The run gathered over 300 participants, including DA RFO 8 employees, representatives from DA’s attached agencies such as the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
Capping the activity, all runners collectively recited the Be Riceponsible Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the A-Ba-Ka-Da principles of responsible rice consumption.
This closing ritual reflected the core message of Rice Awareness Month, an annual campaign that champions the value of rice, encourages waste reduction, and promotes the appreciation of farmers who labor to produce the country’s staple food.
