Jorge P. Alvero, Jr. has officially assumed office as the new Chairperson of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) in Eastern Visayas.

The RAFC executive officers and sectoral committee representatives for the 2026–2029 term were elected on July 31, 2026, at the DA-RFO 8 ORED Conference Room.

As the newly elected chairperson, Mr. Alvero pledged to continue the advocacy he championed for ten years as PAFC Leyte chairperson. He said cooperation and collaboration with fellow officers, stakeholders, and the agriculture department will be vital in advancing the agriculture and fishery sector during his term.

Outgoing chairperson Engr. Miguel Pedroso highlighted the council’s milestones during his tenure, including efforts to strengthen AFCs, develop and advocate policies, promote emerging crops, and advance climate-resilient agriculture. He also thanked the council for supporting his leadership over the past three years.

RED Macapañas thanked the officers for their selfless service and volunteerism as the department’s partners in advancing agricultural development. He urged them to take an active role in budget preparation and respond more effectively to the challenges facing the sector.
