The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII, in close coordination with the Municipal Agricultural Services Office of Malitbog, Southern Leyte, successfully conducted the distribution of agricultural inputs under the Corn Program on May 21, 2026, at the Barangay Sangahon Covered Court, this municipality.
Farmer-beneficiaries were gathered to receive the inputs, at the same time, be briefed on program guidelines and recommended planting practices to help achieve optimal yields.
To optimize agricultural productivity and promote crop diversification, a complete package of interventions for local farmers was allocated through the banner program. For this year, the total seed allocation for the municipality comprised 15 bags of Open-Pollinated Variety (OPV) corn seeds, 5 bags of hybrid white corn seeds, and 95 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds. In addition, the banner program turned over 80,000 pieces of cassava cuttings to diversify local cropping systems.
To support soil fertility and crop health, the support also included 151 bags of complete inorganic fertilizer, 249 packs of foliar fertilizer, 258 packs of biofertilizer, and 5 bottles of biofertilizer.
During the program, staff from the Corn Program and the Municipal Agricultural Services Office conducted ceremonial distribution of corn seeds, foliar fertilizers, and biofertilizers to beneficiaries at the venue. The remaining inputs were transferred to the Municipal Agriculture Office for orderly distribution to the other recipients.
Said intervention underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing local food security, boosting crop yields, and providing robust production support to the municipality’s farming sector.
The event concluded with positive indicators, as the farmer-beneficiaries expressed immense gratitude and optimism, demonstrating a high level of readiness to utilize the distributed inputs to secure a high-yielding and profitable harvest season.
