Geared towards advocating collective shift to organic agriculture, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII, in partnership with ATI RTC 8, City Government of Baybay, and the Visayas State University celebrated 11th National Organic Agriculture Month on December 4-5, 2025 at VSU, Baybay City, Leyte.
In her talk, RTD for Operations, Dr. Jenny Lyn R. Almeria, underlined the significance of the activity as a forum to boost awareness on the promising potential of ecologically-sound farming practices and an avenue to showcase organic products.
Meanwhile, NOAP Director, Dir. Bernadette F. San Juan imparted updates on the reforms that they are eyeing to institute to strengthen the implementation of the National Organic Agriculture Program.
The activity provided a conducive platform where inspiring and successful narratives and best practices on organic farming were promoted and showcased. Resource speakers include Ms Graciel Gacutan, OAP Focal Person of ATI-RTC 8; Mr. Olegario Paredes of JEFSPA; Mr. Nico Soldevilla of Naturland; Mr. Ruy Valente Polistico of Edvantage Farm; and, Dr. Carmelino Bernadas of DepEd Ormoc City Division.
At the latter part, an open forum was held where participants were encouraged to pose their queries and clarify points to plenary speakers relative to various matters concerning organic agriculture.
More than 100 organic agriculture practitioners and enterprises, agricultural extension workers, and other leading stakeholders in organic agriculture of the region were among the participants during the two-day event originally scheduled last November.
