The Department of Agriculture – Regional Soils Laboratory VIII (DA-RSL VIII) successfully completed its Annual Laboratory Assessment and Renewal Audit for License to Operate – Soil Laboratory (LTO-SL 012 | DARSL/SATSL010) on April 14–16, 2026.
The Audit Team from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), spearheaded by Mary Claire Alyssa E. Pras, RCh, with members Shaira Mhel Joy M. Granada, RAg; Nicole A. Caragay, RCh; and Christine Joy G. Lasola, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the laboratory’s systems, technical operations, and quality management processes in accordance with the requirements of Presidential Decree No. 1435 (PD 1435).
The activity was carried out with full institutional support from the DA RFO 8 management. The strong collaboration among leadership and technical staff highlighted the laboratory’s commitment to quality service, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
The audit concluded with only one (1) minor non-conformance, reflecting the laboratory’s high level of compliance and consistent adherence to national standards. With this outcome, the renewal of the LTO-SL is expected within the year.
Under PD 1435, the Bureau of Soils and Water Management serves as the regulatory authority responsible for ensuring that soil laboratories maintain the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, and technical competence. The issuance of an LTO-SL certifies that a laboratory is capable of delivering dependable soil analysis results that support science-based fertilizer recommendations, sustainable soil management, and informed agricultural decision-making.
This milestone reaffirms DA-RSL VIII’s vital role in advancing agricultural productivity in Eastern Visayas by providing accurate, timely, and reliable soil testing services to farmers, stakeholders, and partner institutions.
