The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII (DA RFO8) is actively celebrating Filipino Food Month this April, highlighting the rich culinary traditions and diverse agricultural products of Eastern Visayas. The month-long observance, also known as π˜‰π˜Άπ˜Έπ˜’π˜― 𝘯𝘨 π˜’π˜’π˜π˜Άπ˜΅π˜°π˜―π˜¨ π˜—π˜ͺ𝘭π˜ͺ𝘱π˜ͺ𝘯𝘰, aims to promote Filipino cuisine while supporting local farmers, fisherfolk, and food producers.

As part of the celebration, DA RFO8 organized a regional showcase of locally produced goods, through the π˜’π˜’π˜₯π˜ͺ𝘸𝘒 𝘯𝘨 π˜—π˜’π˜―π˜¨π˜Άπ˜π˜° featuring fresh crops, seafood, and processed food items from various provinces. Farmers’ associations and agri-entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to present their products, emphasizing the quality and uniqueness of Eastern Visayas’ agricultural resources.

The initiative highlighted the vital role of local food systems in ensuring food security and economic development. By creating a platform for direct engagement between producers and consumers, the event helps boost market access for smallholder farmers while encouraging the public to support locally sourced products.

Former DA RFO8 Regional Director Leo CaΓ±eda emphasized that Filipino Food Month is not only about celebrating traditional dishes but also about recognizing the people behind the food supply chain.

β€œWe, at the Department of Agriculture, are desperate for one goalβ€”the attainment of food security. And we cannot do it without our hardworking farmers. Today, we celebrate not just food but the people who work tirelessly to produce food,” said CaΓ±eda.

Through its participation in the nationwide observance, DA RFO8 reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the agriculture sector and promoting regional pride.
